I've been exploring some of the Barcode APIs on marketplace and haven't found a suitable option to meet our requirements which are
Must have:
- Ability to read QR-Code
- iOS compatible (will be used on iPad)
Nice to have:
- Windows compatible (they intend to add Surface devices down the road)
- Android compatible (for brownie points)
The main issue we've encountered is that the APIs that have caught our attention (RedLaser and Scandit), have recurring fees of $199-$299 monthly and this could be a deal breaker for our client (and the implementation of the application)
Our client would be willing to pay a single fee up-front but not recurring since that represents organizational challenges (who foots the bill once the budget for the project has been exhausted)
We also looked into TiBar and they stopped supporting Android and it doesn't look like they plan on supporting Windows anytime soon.
